Pic from the Boilermaker

OK...maybe the Blog is more about recording my thoughts...

I got a bit discouraged a while back as I had no followers, but having gone a bit without writing I realized that I am not doing this blog for others...it’s for me!

I did ok in the Boilermaker and would recommend it to anyone in the northeast! It is a great event. Huge after party and great support during the run. The most surprising thing was that you did not see a lot of walkers. In other big 10Ks (like the Bridge run in Charleston) you see a lot of walkers. Not that there is anything wrong with walking...I am a fan of walking ;-). It was just odd that in the Boilermaker all I saw was running...

After the race I went too far too fast and pulled both my hip flexors. It got to the point where I had trouble just walking, and my running gait was just abysmal. It took over a month to get back into a regular schedule. But I am back to my training agenda from last year (from the book…Marathon Running for Non-runners.)

Ran a 14 on Sunday and felt pretty good. Still running slow, but losing weight a pound at a time

The long slow slog

I ran 9 yesterday...Up here in Old Forge its a bit hilly, well to say its a bit hilly is like saying Santa Claus is a bit generous! I was beat up by a 1.5 mile hill (severe grade) during the mid part of the run. I am sad to admit I had to walk a bit. The problem is once I walk during a run, it over...that is to say I had that much more trouble on the other hills. I managed to run most of the way and finished the 9 miles in 10:50 including the walking. Looking forward to the recovery run tomorrow.

Happy 4th everyone!!

Well it seems a bit weird saying everyone when technically I have no followers, so Happy 4th me! My brother Chris read the blog and said that it was a bit dry...actually he said something along the lines of "paint drying" so when I get back from vacation I will begin to spice it up a bit...

Feel OK this am, ate too much on the drive up and had cake and pizza last night, so I am going to climb back on the wagon today...need to drop another 15-20 lbs by Nov...

Log more after my 15K run tomorrow!

Skipped...I am a bad bad man

This morning was a recovery run of 3 miles after my 8 on Sunday...made the mistake of checking out Sunday's True Blood...great show, but after watching the whole thing I had no time for my run. I am convinced that my legs hatched an evil plan to sit me on that couch...

Well I will teach them, tonight will be a very hot evening run!

Catch up-Wed-Sunday

Ran 4.5 on Wed, followed by 3 on sat and 8 yesterday...sufficed to say that the 8 was the toughest...started early so it wasn't that bad...sore, but felt good! Looking forward to the 15K Boilermaker in 13 days...

Ok that's a bit scary now that I am thinking about it.

3 Miles

It Tuesday...that means 3 miles...still a bit warm here, but not too bad. Ran the hills course and might not have made it up the last hill had it not been for "Thriller"

The music on my Ipod may surprise you, after Thriller, came Flo Rida!

Name change...I like Big man

I changed the name...one too many fat man running sites...two...always liked the term...big man

Six...ok, a bad six...but six never the less

Ran six, did I mention I ran six? It was OK. Sunday it was supposed to be 101 degrees, so I got up at 6:00am to run, still about 80 degrees, but you take what you get here in the south. I am feeling a bit better. New running shoes for Dad's day and inserts for the first time...Great on both accounts. I run using Nike Structure, tried several other brands but the structures seem to feel the best.

I over pronate a bit on the left foot...the insert made it go away, long term we'll see if it makes a difference.

Friday...ok so 5:00am is really early

I think there is something about Fridays...the moon, sun, or earth's orbit work in harmony to make Friday's even earlier...so I will be running four this evening. Here in SC its going to be about 100degrees today, so I may wait until 8:00pm to run...but I need to do something today, I already took Wed. off this week.

This Mornings' Run

3 Miles, bit of trouble getting out of bed, but with the Boilermaker 3 weeks away I can't afford to sleep in. Ran at about 10min miles...My average last year was 9:15/mile...another bit of evidence that I am simple out of shape. Of course the 10 miles are better than 11 min miles...glass is half full and all that.

My brother is running again...training for Richmond...did I also mention that he is a little...lets say "big" It was a bet made over lunch at Olive Garden that resulted in Baltimore last year...

More Friday, looking at 4miles on Friday and Six on Sat.

The Beginning

This is a test...this is only a test.

Well I am fat again...that is to say that I am 6'2" and weigh right at 260lbs...Obese according to the accursed BMI, I am conviced it it stands for Boy Macaroni's Incredible!

Last year I lost 30 lbs and ran the Baltimore Marathon...yes all 26.2 miles in 4:15:51...

I wouldn't recommend a marathon as a weight loss tool, but I did discover that running is a pretty good way to lose weight. After the race I was hit with the Marathon blues...than the Holidays, and 20 pounds later...

So I ran the Cooper River Bridge Run...and am running regular for a couple of weeks...

This year I am running the Richmond Marathon (grew up in Richmond), The Boilermaker, and next year I signed up for the Goofy Race and a half...used to work for Disney.

I am going to try and document the coming year...for any other Fat Men Running!!!
